Question: Recently, the Chamber has decided to decline public funding, which would limit the number of businesses that can place pamphlets and advertisements in the Visitors Center. Explain why the Chamber has made this change and what prompted the decision. Answer: Until eight years ago or so, the Chamber and the Visitors Bureau were under one roof. When the separation of the two organizations occurred, an arrangement was put in place that provided Hospitality and A-TAX funding to the GCVB, as the designated marketing agency, and separate A-TAX funding to the Chamber to manage visitor centers. The original funding was around $130,000. Over the next several years the funding for visitor center operations diminished, leaving the Chamber subsidizing the centers from its own budget..
